With the Ponchatoula Strawberry Festival kicking off on Friday, troopers with the Louisiana State Police have announced traffic routes and safety tips for people planning to drive to this year’s fest.
SAFE gets donated items to help abused people thanks to WVFC members
On March 6, Wednesday Volunteers for Family and Community held its monthly meeting at the home of club president Donna Bouterie. Following the business part of the meeting, members put individually written cards and personal hygiene items into gift bags for delivery to Southeast Advocates for Family Empowerment in Hammond. The mission of SAFE is to promote social change by providing services that empower battered and abused individuals and their dependent children to achieve safe, violence-free lives, a news release said.

72-year-old man hit by car, killed in Hammond
HAMMOND — A 72-year-old man died after he was hit by a car in Hammond. Curtis Young, 72, was crossing the street on April 6 at the intersection between North Cherry Street and Chrystal Street when Davis Lenear, 51, hit Young with his car. Young was taken to the hospital and succumbed to his injuries that night.
