From 10 am to 4 pm, Ponca City’s Petsense hosted their largest ever adoption event on Sat., May 20. This event provided all day fun for all ages as they hosted several different and exciting opportunities for the people of Ponca City to experience.

Throughout the day they hosted pet rescues like Northern Oklahoma Humane Society, Oklahoma Exotics Rescue and Sanctuary, and PAW First Rescue. These three agencies brought pets of all kinds for people to potentially find their new best friend. From the kinds with scales to the more common furry friends, there were options for every kind of pet person. By the end of the event, around 14 animals found their forever homes.

Many local vendors came out to participate in the adoption event as well, so there will be shopping and fun activities planned at the booths. Even the Oklahoma Aquarium Club came to educate people on how to care for different aquatic pets. They help those with pets of this kind with feeding, cleaning, what can be added to their tanks, etc. On top of that, there was a scavenger hunt throughout the day for kids of all ages to explore the festival and become pet experts. The first 25 to solve the pet parenting quiz received a sticker and a sweet prize. There were delicious treats from food and drink vendors Nova Coffee, Shepherd’s Frozen Grind, and Cubby’s BBQ!

During this event there was a live band and open mic karaoke for everyone as well! Those in attendance had the option to show off their skills by performing their favorite songs to the crowd. Members of the Northern Oklahoma College Music Department were in attendence to perform a few of their own songs at the open mic.

The lifesaving Air Evac team and their helicopter came to have a meet and greet with those in attendance. People had the opportunity to meet and snap a picture with the hardworking and brave members of Air Evac and the helicopter. The New Life Trails Petting Zoo were also in attendance with different members of their own animal team. From horses to bunnies and chickens, the New Life Trails Petting Zoo has a number of animals for people to meet and spend time with.

Close to the end of the event, those in attendance had the opportunity to bid for their favorite locally donated items to help raise money for Ponca City’s local shelters. Businesses from around town donated prizes and special guest Mayor Homer Nicholson lead the raffle!

The most important part of this entire event was that the people that were apart of it showed their support to the rescues that work so hard to help these pets find their forever families. By attending the people of Ponca City and the surrounding areas helped many of these critters find a home that they can call their own for the rest of their lives. Keep an eye out for what events Petsense has planned next and check your local rescues if you are looking to add to your family.
