Retirement marks end of era in Po-Hi tennis
Body After 38 years of teaching and coaching, Ponca City boys tennis coach Brad Larimer is hanging up his whistle. His retirement marks the end of an era. The name Larimer has been associated with Po-Hi tennis since the 1960s. Brad’s late father, Steve, joined the legendary Coach Wally Smith’s coaching staff in 1961, working with junior high teams. He later became head boys coach in 1979, and served until his retirement. Steve Larimer was affectionately known as “Big Daddy” to his players and his friends.
The 28th Annual Hospice Memorial Golf Tournament
Body The 28th Annual Hospice Memorial Golf Tournament was held at Lew Wentz Memorial Golf Course in Ponca City on Friday, May 26. The funds through this event help to provide care to patients without insurance, extended bereavement care to surviving families, grief and loss support for the community. This year’s tournament honored two individuals: Dr. Philip Knight and Guy Palmer Clark.
NES Big Blast
Newkirk Elementary School students celebrated the end of the school year with the Big Blast at the football field Wednesday morning, May 17, with plenty of excitement. Games included a sand pit, bouncy houses, water balloon races and many more. Lunch followed later in the morning.
Wildcat Brody Wicker gets baseball honor
Body Ponca City’s Brody Wicker has received a special baseball honor. The Wildcat junior was named to participate in the Oklahoma Baseball Coaches Association’s Oklahoma State Games, which will take place June 20-21 in Enid. All those selected were underclassmen in the 2023 season Wicker was selected to the Northeast team. Other teams in the games include an All-Tulsa team, an OKC team and a Northwest team.
Wildcats set school records at state
Body YUKON --Two Ponca City High School records were set while five athletes represented the school at Friday and Saturday’s Class 6A State Track Meet. Victor Morfin, finished fourth in the high jump with a mark of 6-feet-6 inches. That is a new Po-Hi record. Also breaking a school...
Three sign soccer letters of intent
Body Three members of the Ponca City boys varsity soccer team signed letters of intent to play in college earlier this week. Those signing most recently were: -- Sergio “Checho” Aguilar, with Ranger College, Ranger, Texas -- Antonio Aguilar, with Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa --Eliseo Ramirez, Northern Oklahoma College, Tonkawa.
