12-Year-Old Killed in Crash Off 57 Freeway, Dad Arrested For DUI

POMONA, CA, Sept. 30 (KNN) — A child initially reported in critical condition after a vehicle crashed off the 57 Freeway overnight, succumbed to injuries sustained in the solo vehicle crash, and the father was arrested for DUI, according to authorities.

California Highway Patrol and the Los Angeles County Fire Department responded to a traffic collision involving a vehicle that flew off the 57 Freeway shortly after midnight Saturday morning and landed in a dirt area near Temple Avenue.

One adult and a child were transported to Pomona Valley Hospital, according to initial information from the scene. In an update per LACoFD shortly after the crash, the child was in critical condition.

It is unknown at this time which direction the vehicle was traveling when the crash occurred.

Authorities announced later Saturday that the 12-year-old child passed away at the hospital and the dad was arrested for DUI.

CHP requested an evidence tow for the red, damaged vehicle.
