POCATELLO — Bright colored neon lights and colorful displays saturate the arcade gaming space at Outer Limits Fun Zone as troves of children and adults chatter in excitement.

The beeps and blips of electronic machines whirr nearby, occasionally interrupted by the screeching of arcade tire wheels or the roar of a digital dinosaur. Smells of delicious chicken wings drift from the Galactic Grill, Outer Limits' food and restaurant space.

Across from the fluffy stuffed toys, florescent oddities and knick-knacks of the prize center is a brand new, state-of-the-art darts attraction that is sure to dazzle and entice patrons of the fun zone.

April served as the 18th anniversary of Outer Limits Fun Zone, which has provided the people of Pocatello with fun and games for nearly two decades now. It's located at 1800 Garrett Way in Pocatello.

“Our biggest reason for coming to Pocatello was our community needed some fun and some entertainment,” said Stacey Miller, owner and operator of Outer Limits Fun Zone. “So, we brought in the big, we bought in the wow, we went with the largest manufacturers of everything that we provide. Our laser tag is actually the largest in Idaho — it's a multilevel arena. We constantly update, get new features that they come up with and we integrate those new features, new equipment and different things like that all the time.”

The newest Outer Limits' attraction has been creating buzz and excitement at a host of different gaming and entertainment conventions and provides local residents with yet another fun activity to engage in, especially for those who have a love of darts.

“LASERTRON is our laser tag company and they came out with this new attraction called Krazy Darts,” Miller said. “We brought (the attraction) in and it's actually throwing real darts at moving targets, so you're braking plates and popping balloons. They have a Wild West theme. There's just tons of different attractions that you can play with for this game.”

Interested players can sign up for the dart game in a similar fashion to laser tag. Patrons will submit their picture and code name over to the board and can break up teams in whatever way they see fit. Up to eight people can play per lane as they take turns throwing darts at the board during the 55-minute time limit. As an added bonus, players can also enjoy their food and drink in a casual environment as they await their turn.

“It's for all levels of dart players — from the never-played-darts players to the very experienced dart players," Miller said. "Instead of keeping score in your mind or watching the scores, it visually displays your scores and shows you who wins each game. It'll email you your score sheets at the end to show you how everybody did, so you get those bragging rights.”

The game is both digital and physical, with participants throwing real darts at real cork boards that have a digital display projected on top of it.

“As you go into the game, you can pick how many darts you want to throw and you can pick your speed,” Miller said. “If you're a (novice player) and don't really play darts you can go easy, or go to intermediate or crazy hard."

Each difficulty can make the targets smaller, move faster or even a combination of the two. There is also a large library of themes and game types, allowing for a variety of different experiences each time someone plays, including a standard dart board mode.

"There's about 25 different game formats that you can play,” Miller said. “In that 55 minutes, you get to pick the games that you want to play, but the thing that's really cool is they're coming out all the time. As those get integrated in, when you come back, there'll be new games and new things for you to play.”

Outer Limits is constantly applying the various updates and new features to their games, with the Krazy Darts adding specialty themes during holidays. With new themes and modes continually rolling out, there will always be something new to experience in Krazy Darts.

Over the next month, new arcade games like ‘Goats and Ropes’ and other equipment will make a landing at Outer Limits, providing even more opportunity for residents to try out all the newest and greatest arcade and gaming entertainment.

"It’s a great vibe to get together with friends on dates or just with family members getting together and just having a great time in your own space,” Miller said.
