Plaza Midwood businesses lose tree buffer to Independence Boulevard traffic

The removal of trees along Highway 74 has left the hill behind several local businesses in Plaza Midwood looking like a "battlefield," Sustain Charlotte founder Shannon Binns told reporters Tuesday morning. The tree removal is intended to make an Adams billboard more visible along 74. The billboard is an advertisement for Charlotte FC. The club has several billboards around the city. A spokesperson for Tepper Sports & Entertainment, which owns the team, tells Axios they had no knowledge of the tree removal. Triangle gas stations have received complaints for overcharging customers

North Carolina’s 41 cent a gallon gas tax is suspended through Nov. 30, in an effort to lower the cost for consumers at the pump. N.C. Fuel Check was announced as part of an effort to make sure gas station operators are charging appropriately following the suspension of the tax. Attorney General Jeff Jackson wants to use the tool to make sure savings are passed along to the consumer, The News & Observer previously reported. More than 450 people have filed complaints through the N.C. Fuel Check Portal as of Tuesday, Oct. 20, according to Jackson’s office. The tax won’t be levied against new gasoline deliveries, but it may take a bit for savings to fully hit the market, and they may not be a full 41 cents. Studies have shown some of the windfall remains with gas stations. As of Oct. 21, the average cost of gas in the country sits at $4.26, compared to $3.57 in North Carolina, according to the AAA. Where are people complaining? Jackson’s office provided a list of complaints received through the N.C. Fuel Check portal as of 1:30 p.m. Tuesday. Diesel, gasoline prices each 16 cents better in North Carolina

(The Center Square) – Lowest average prices for a gallon of diesel fuel or regular unleaded gasoline are each 16 cents better in North Carolina than any other state in the nation, according to an update Monday from AAA. Along with Ohio and Georgia, suspensions of fuel taxes on each are in place in North Carolina helping achieve norms of $5.53 a gallon for diesel and $3.48 a gallon for unleaded regular gasoline. National averages are $6.34 for diesel and $4.28 for gas. Among other states, Indiana has suspended its gas tax. Utah has a 15% reduction on the motor fuel tax; Illinois froze a 1.3 cent rate increase; and Kentucky froze a rate increase and enacted a 10 cents per gallon reduction on diesel and gasoline. Diesel set a North Carolina record of $6.24 on Sept. 19, and unleaded gasoline clipped $4.16 on Sept. 17. Lawmakers overwhelmingly approved Relief at the Pump, the suspension through Thanksgiving of 41 cents per gallon on gasoline and diesel fuel, on Oct. 7. Gov.
