A successful year of local sports

In addition to graduation, this past week brought the end of another successful year of local sports and what a year it was! From the volleyball court and the gridiron to the track and the diamond, it was a whirlwind of emotions for everyone.

Watching these teams compete with a lot of passion in their respective sports allows me to appreciate this job in the highest regard. Unfortunately, there will be a few months between now and August where they’ll be some slow times. Rest assured, the fall will be here in no time and we’ll be in full swing again. For now, we’ll admire what we’ve seen over the last nine months.

Jourdanton’s regional final against Santa Gertrudis Academy marked the final competition among the local schools in respect to UIL competition. Despite being a team full of underclassmen, they put up a fight against the state’s fifth ranked team. The future is bright for the program and it’s just one of many who are looking to have another successful season next year.

As the summer continues, we will cover the top moments from each school throughout the year. Among those are Pleasanton’s run in both basketball and volleyball, Jourdanton’s football and girls basketball district championship, Charlotte’s softball district championship, Poteet’s playoff qualifying teams, Mc- Mullen County’s historic basketball season and much more. We will also be highlighting new head coaches in the area. As always, reach out with any concerns or news tips. Thank you those who continue reading and supporting the Pleasanton Express, it means more than you will ever know. Have a great week!
