29-year-old inmate found dead in cell at William Donaldson Correctional Facility
A 29-year-old inmate at William Donaldson Correctional Facility died Thursday at the western Jefferson County prison. The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office identified the inmate as Demetrise Rashaun Maye. Maye was serving a life sentence for a murder conviction in the 2016 slaying of 23-year-old Tractviner Howell in Sumter County.
Birmingham native hosts free event to highlight positive side of community in light of recent violence
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (WBRC) - In light of all the violence we’re seeing in Birmingham right now, one woman is looking to change the narrative by highlighting the positive side of her community. Organizer Sherita Wilson Clark says ROC stands for “refreshing our communities.” She says after Saturday’s free event, the hope is kids will walk away with conflict resolution skills, knowledge on how to buy a home or start a business, and information on mental and physical health.
