A Plano dentist gets drilled for stealing federal COVID relief money.

Court reports show that 43-year old Brian Bui will spend a year and a half in federal prison and will have to repay taxpayers $1.5 million he stole from the federal Payroll Protection Program (PPP).

Federal prosecutors say Bui got two forgivable loans during the pandemic worth almost $2 million by lying to the Small Business Administration. He did it by lying about the number of employees he had and what his monthly payroll expenses were. Then he spent the money on himself.

The Feds created the Payroll Protection Program to help keep businesses afloat, promising them they didn't have to repay the loans if they they used the money to keep the staff working.
