WBU concert series features Daniel Adam Maltz on early-1800s replica piano

Staff Reports

PLAINVIEW — Wayland Baptist University is hosting a specialist in early pianos to perform a concert on a period-replica instrument.

Daniel Adam Maltz

Fortepianist Daniel Adam Maltz will perform at 7 p.m. Monday, April 3, in Miller Recital Hall on the Wayland campus as part of the music department's "Excelsior!" concert series.

The Vienna-based musician specializes in Viennese Classicism, especially the works of Haydn, Mozart and Beethoven, and performs on the Viennese fortepianos of their time, according to his website. Maltz is making a stop in Plainview as part of an extensive U.S. tour.

Maltz is touring with his own replica of an early-1800s fortepiano that is like the instruments Mozart and Beethoven would have played, according to Richard Fountain, associate dean of the School of Creative Arts and professor of piano.

“His program will feature pieces by Haydn and Mozart,” Fountain said. “Mr. Maltz will also be presenting a workshop at 11 a.m. and a masterclass at 1:45 p.m. on Tuesday, April 4, at which attendees will be able to experience this wonderful instrument up close.”

Admission to the concert Monday night is open with a suggested donation of $25 for adults and $10 for students.

“We are especially grateful for the generous support of the Plainview Cultural Arts Council, as well as several local supporters who continue to make this series possible,” Fountain said.
