MSPCA waiving adoption fees for group of surrendered pigs
If you’ve ever considered adopting a pig as a pet, this weekend may be your chance. The MSPCA at Nevins Farm is holding a special fee-waived adopt-a-thon for pigs on June 3 and 4 after several pigs were surrendered from a home in Plainfield.“The owner had more animals than they were able to care for, so they surrendered these pigs to us,” said Rachel Navarro, equine and farm animal assistant manager at Nevins Farm. “Because of their previous situation, the pigs are a little shy, but we’ve been working to socialize them over the last few weeks.”Pig adoptions typically cost about $400.“Many don’t know this, but pigs are great companions for the right people,” said Navarro. “They’re smart, inquisitive and friendly. They even enjoy belly rubs and snuggles, and can form life-long bonds with humans and other pigs.”The MSPCA hopes to find homes for seven pigs during the adopt-a-thon. Click here to register.
