PITTSTON, LUZERNE COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — A local event that marks the start of festival season kicked off Sunday in Luzerne County and they couldn’t ask for better weather.

It was the perfect weather for some fun in the sun in Pittston, all while supporting local businesses.

Fresh food, souvenirs, and the company of the community filled part of downtown Pittston for the annual spring outdoors festival and craft show.

“Any event in downtown Pittston is an important event. It’s a community. It brings people together. It’s a start of a nice season so we’re excited, get people outside, and do some shopping and support some of our local businesses,” said Pittston Main Street Manager Mary Kroptavich.

Supporting local businesses is what brought one woman out to the event.

“My best friend actually here at the event selling her stuff so asked her if I wanted she wanted me to come up so I came up,” said Tonia Mowery from Wilkes-Barre.

While there, Mowery also enjoyed checking out what other vendors had to offer.

“I love seeing the different products that other people have and the talent is unbelievable,” Mowery stated.

Overall, she says it’s a great way to get people outside.

“It’s good for the community you know it gets community together. You know, it gets everybody out and enjoy the weather and the different products that are done by people from town,” Mowery added.

“It’s a way of like starting this, kicking the season off with the warmer weather, getting people prepared for all the other events that will be happening throughout the year here in downtown Pittston,” Kroptavich explained.

This event is the first of many to come so be sure to keep up to date on our Community Calendar .
