Adams strikes out 14 to lead Pittston Area softball to win

Gianna Adams continued her excellent 2024 season with a one-hit, 14-strikeout performance in the Pittston Area softball team’s 10-0 win over rival Wyoming Area on Saturday.
Adams also had three hits and scored twice from the leadoff spot for the Patriots. Julia Mehal, Samantha Herbert and Gabby Gorzkowski each drove in two runs.
Maggie Hallman had the lone Wyoming Area hit, a double.
Holy Cross 6, Holy Redeemer 3
A four-run top of the tenth inning finally broke open a tight contest for Holy Cross, beating Holy Redeemer in extras. Redeemer had tied the game at 2 in the bottom of the seventh to send the game to extra innings.
Peyton Graboske drove in two runs for Holy Cross. Ava Schmidt earned the win with three scoreless innings of relief.
Kaylee Gryboski drove in both runs for the Royals on two hits, a double and a triple.
BASEBALL
Wyoming Area 7, Berwick 2
A strong performance from pitcher Tom Carlin helped lead the Warriors to a win. Carlin earned the win with a complete game three-hitter, allowing just two runs (one earned).
Jacob Snyder had three hits, including a double and a triple, and scored three times for the Warriors. Alex Vacula had two hits and drove in two runs.
Greyson Kupsky had two hits for Berwick, and scored a run.
Wyoming Seminary 9, Mahanoy Area 2
It was a big day at the plate for Hayden Vought, driving in three runs on three hits with a double and a home run in a Sem victory.
Leo Nockley drove in two runs from the leadoff spot for the Blue Knights. Caleb Aponick earned the win on the mound with a complete game performance, only allowing two runs on four hits and striking out seven.
Holy Redeemer 11, Holy Cross 7
The Royals offense came alive in the later innings to knock off Holy Cross. Redeemer scored all 11 of its runs across the fourth, fifth and sixth innings.
Jeff Kelsall drove in three runs for Holy Redeemer. Cody Quaglia and Drew Cisney each drove in two runs and scored twice.
MMI Prep 15, Weatherly 0
In the first game of a doubleheader sweep for the Preppers, Andrew Burns and Caleb Skuba each drove in three runs from the top of the order to lead MMI to a four-inning win.
Heath Williams earned the win for MMI with four innings of two-hit ball, striking out seven.
MMI Prep 16, Weatherly 0 (Game 2)
Zack Yenchko launched a home run and drove in four runs in another MMI win over Weatherly, this one in three innings.
Lucas Pesotine also drove in four runs for the Preppers. Lex Lispi and Kade Lutz combined on a three-inning no-hitter, allowing just two runners to reach for Weatherly on a walk and an error.
