PITTSFIELD, Mass. (WRGB) —
In the wake of Monday's mass school shooting in Tennessee -- several communities in Massachusetts are reporting hoax calls of violence.

Pittsfield police say several schools received calls of "critical incidents.” The calls were determined to be false and are referred to as quote "swatting" -- which they defined as callers attempting to trigger a swift and strong response from law enforcement.
A call Tuesday morning reported an alleged active shooting incident at Pittsfield High School and officers responded out of an abundance of caution before eventually clearing the school.
