South Street in Pittsfield is open again after a three-vehicle crash that left two drivers injured and damaged all three vehicles.
At about 12:44 p.m. Saturday, Pittsfield Police Dept., Pittsfield Fire Dept., and County Ambulance responded to the area of 639 South St for a motor vehicle vs tractor-trailer crash.
Police found that a 2018 Toyota Rav 4 operated by a Demitryia Sweener of Pittsfield, was traveling south bound on South Street when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle entered into the left southbound lane, where it struck a 2022 Honda HR-V operated by a Robert Wilcox of Pittsfield, before crossing into the northbound lane and colliding with a 2018 Kenilworth tractor-trailer. This vehicle was operated by a Joseph Rondeau of North Adams. The collision caused extensive damage to all vehicles involved as well as a significant spill of diesel fuel onto the roadway, police said.
Sweener and Wilcox were transported to Berkshire Medical Center for non-life threatening injuries.
As a result of this collision and the fuel spill, South Street was shut down from Dan Fox Drive to South Mountain Road, from 12:44 p.m. until 6 p.m., for the removal of vehicles and clean-up of the fuel spill.
