Vehicle catches fire in Penn Township garage

A vehicle caught fire in a Penn Township home’s attached garage early Wednesday.

Crews were called to the 100 block of McDermott Road around 1:15 a.m., according to Tribune-Review news partner WPXI-TV.

Officials said no one was injured in the fire.

The fire was put out around 2:30 a.m., according to WPXI.

No injuries reported in Hill District fire

Pittsburgh firefighters responded to a one-alarm fire at a detached structure in the 4200 block of Andover Terrace in the city’s Upper Hill District around 1:45 a.m. Tuesday.

No injuries were reported.

Officials said the cause of the fire is under investigation.

Pittsburgh CitiParks releases annual summer guide

Pittsburgh’s CitiParks on Tuesday released its 2023 CitiParks Summer Guide, which outlines this summer’s variety of events and activities.

The guide lists events ranging from hikes and foot races to concerts and movies. It provides details on the Roving Art Cart and city farmers markets.

“Pittsburgh’s CitiParks are alive and thriving with summer activities that are family- and kid-friendly,” officials wrote in a news release. “CitiParks is proud of the fun, safe opportunities that we provide, and we welcome everyone to a great Pittsburgh summer.”

Region sees 2nd straight Code Orange day

The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection declared a second straight Code Orange Air Quality Action Day because of fine particulate matter for Wednesday.

The warning comes in part because of wildfires in eastern Canada, officials said.

The Western Pa. region — including Allegheny, Armstrong, Beaver, Butler, Fayette, Washington and Westmoreland counties — is included in the alert, along with the Philadelphia, Leigh Valley-Berks and Susquehanna regions.

Parkway East lane closures set for Thursday, Friday nights

PennDOT announced a single-lane closure on Interstate 376 in the westbound direction between the Glenwood and Oakland exits from 9 p.m. Thursday to 5 a.m. Friday.

The closure comes as crews from Allison Park Contractors conduct compression seal and deck repairs, PennDOT officials said.

Police say Butler man threatened judge

State police arrested a man Tuesday after they claim he threatened a Butler County judge.

Police alleged Matthew Dec, 54, of Butler, called the magisterial district judicial office in Butler Township around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday. During the phone call, state police said, Dec threatened to burn down Magisterial District Judge Lewis Stoughton’s place and threatened his staff.

Police charged Dec with aggravated assault, making terroristic threats, simple assault, harassment and recklessly endangering another person.

He was taken into custody Tuesday without incident and is being held in Butler County Prison.
