PITTSBURGH — After a wild Wednesday that saw 13 former Pitt players participate in Pro Day, the current Pitt players got back to work at practice Thursday at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex.
This practice is the last before another scrimmage this Saturday. The defense won the first practice last Saturday and earned blue jerseys as a result. The losers on the offensive side had to wear the hated white jerseys and will look to win the blue jerseys back this weekend.
Pitt continues to focus a lot of work on the punt team, at least in front of the media. It isn’t too surprising, since 2022 saw many different punters used and a lack of a true punter.
There’s no telling who will be the next starting punter for Pitt, but it’s clear that the team won’t accept the mediocrity at the position that it had last season.
Twins in offensive linemen Brody and Graysen Riffe visited Pitt Thursday. The two brothers are in fact, quite tall, standing at 6-foot-8 and will arrive for the 2023 season as the tallest players on the roster. Despite joining as preferred walk-ons, these two won’t be hard to miss if you’re a Pitt fan.

Quarterbacks continued to get work in, handing the ball off to their running backs and practicing their throws as always.
Offensive line coach Dave Borbely worked with his players in a few drills, challenging them to react quicker and with ferocity.
The defensive backs worked with safeties coach Cory Sanders and secondary coach Archie Collins on improving their movement in coverage.
People should continue to pay attention the linebacking core and how they develop over the spring. They got work in with coach Ryan Manalac today, as they practice brushing off their offensive linemen and getting to the player in the backfield.
The departures of defensive linemen Deslin Alexandre, Habakkuk Baldonado and of course, potential first-round pick Calijah Kancey allow new players on the defensive line to step up and make a name for themselves.
WPIAL products in redshirt sophomore Elliot Donald out of Pittsburgh Central Catholic as well as redshirt sophomore Nakhi Johnson from West Mifflin are two players who fans should keep an eye on during Spring practices.
