2024 3-Star DT Emmett Laws Pleased to Pick Up Offer From ‘D-Line University’
The Pitt football program’s reputation for developing elite defensive linemen is something that’s known well beyond Western Pennsylvania.
Having developed and getting players such as Aaron Donald, Patrick Jones, Rashad Weaver and Jaylen Twyman drafted — and with star defensive tackle Calijah Kancey likely getting selected in the first-round next month — Pitt’s developed a well-earned nickname among high school defensive linemen.
That nickname was brought up by Emmett Laws when I asked him his reaction to getting an offer last night from Pitt.
“That offer means the world to me. Man, Pitt is D-Line University. They know how to produce defensive linemen and get them to the next level,” said Laws.
‘D-Line University’ is a fitting nickname, considering the talent Charlie Partridge develops on a yearly basis and the statistics the d-line produce, especially in terms of getting after the opposing quarterback.
The question now is will Emmett Laws become a future member of D-Line University?
Laws is a 2024 three-star defensive tackle from DeMatha Catholic High School in Hyattsville, Maryland. Along with Pitt, the 6-foot-2, 265-pound defensive lineman also holds offers from Penn State, Virginia Tech, Maryland, Georgia Tech, South Florida, Marshall, Akron, Toledo and Temple.
Laws told PSN that he officially received word of the offer last night but the communication with the Pitt coaches started this past weekend when he traveled to Pittsburgh.
“I got the offer from Pitt last night when I was on my way home from workouts at school,” said Laws. “Coach called me and asked me how my day was and how everything was going. He then told me that I had an offer from the University of Pittsburgh. When I went there over the weekend, I was definitely hoping that an offer would come. I was like, ‘Dang, am I going to get it?’ But, in the end, I knew that it was all on God’s timing.

“I definitely say a big strength of mine is my twitchiness and how fast I’m able to get off the ball. I’m really able to shed blockers and get in the opposing backfield. I make a lot of disruptive plays.”
Laws told PSN that his visit to Pitt was outstanding and he was impressed with his tour of Pitt’s facilities along with the opportunity to sit in on a defensive line meeting with Partridge.
“I got the chance to talk with Coach Partridge one-on-one, and I just felt how genuine he was and how good of a person and a coach he is. In our conversation, he even taught me something new that I will be able to use. I didn’t even know that you can reach as a defensive tackle. I learned something new.”
Laws said Pitt will definitely be in his Top 5 when it comes time to narrow down his list. At this time, Laws doesn’t have any other unofficial visits planned but that could change. In terms of official visits, he says that he’s scheduled one with Virginia Tech and will be setting up a date in June to make a return visit to Pitt.
