Wayne Swinny, the guitarist for the rock band Saliva, died Wednesday, a day after the group played at Jergel’s Rhythm Grille in Warrendale.

Swinny, the last remaining original member of the band, died Wednesday of a spontaneous brain hemorrhage after being hospitalized Tuesday, according to a post on the band’s Facebook page.

Audience accounts indicate that a fill-in took Swinny’s place at Tuesday’s show at Jergel’s.

“He was a Guitar Hero onstage with all the Rock ‘N’ Roll swag that most guitar players dream of,” singer Bobby Amaru said in a statement published by Rolling Stone. “Offstage he was a proud father, an Ancient Aliens expert, and an incredible human who had zero enemies! He would go out of his way to make sure you had a good time.”

“I have no words. Just the love, and the little moments, and the looks that we shared, just between us and the fans, on stage, after stage, all over the world, that no one will ever know,” wrote former Saliva singer Josey Scott in an Instagram post. “Playing music, and writing music with a man like Wayne Swinny, for as long as we did, like we did, in all those places we did, is so very intimate. It was a love we shared together, and I will go into eternity holding on to that love, and those memories. Forever #TheToxicTwins.”

Saliva gained fame in the early 2000s with songs like “Click Click Boom,” “Your Disease” and “Always.”
