Could Steelers do something they haven't done since 1996 at 2023 draft?

The Steelers' new regime, led by general manager Omar Khan and assistant general manager Andy Weidl, has been putting its stamp on the team. And based off Khan and Weidl's recent moves in free agency, it looks like the team may just do something it hasn't done in almost 30 years.

Pittsburgh hasn't drafted an offensive tackle in the first round since 1996. With left tackle being the last position to address on the offensive line, that streak could come to an end in the 2023 NFL Draft.

The Steelers haven't been quiet in addressing their offensive line this offseason, most recently signing guard Isaac Seumalo to a three-year, $24 million deal. He played right guard for the Eagles in 2022 but has logged the most snaps at left guard in his career.

Seumalo will likely cement his role at left guard in Pittsburgh and with center Mason Cole, right guard James Daniels and right tackle Chukwuma Okorafor also locked down, only left tackle needs addressed.

Khan hinted at the team's offseason intentions at the NFL Scouting Combine a couple of weeks ago.

"You guys look at the Steeler history, that's always been a big part of the job. Our winning teams have always been the O-line, and the D-line, and the big guys," Khan said.

The Steelers have pick No. 17 in the first round with several offensive tackle options likely being available. However, Pittsburgh also picks at No. 32, and if it decides to go offensive line there, the streak will be alive for at least another year.
