JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. ( WIAT ) — A crash involving a daycare van left eight children injured in Pinson Monday morning.

Initially, Center Point Fire District Chief Brandon Dahlen said seven patients in total were transported to local hospitals. However, Children’s of Alabama later confirmed eight patients were received from the crash.

Additionally, the driver of the van was taken to UAB Hospital for treatment.

Children’s of Alabama confirmed the injuries to all patients received there are considered minor.

The crash happened near Kermit Johnson Elementary School around 7:33 a.m.

As of 3:30 p.m., all eight children had been treated and released from Children’s of Alabama.

Michelle Connell is the grandmother of two twin boys who were riding the van at the time of the accident and got hurt.

“The pastor drives one of the school buses and called and said that the van had been in the accident and that one of my grandchildren was hurt pretty badly,” Connell said. “We rushed up to the school and by then one of the ambulances was already leaving. The officers told us they had more ambulances coming and just for us to come up to Children’s Hospital.”

This is a developing story and will be updated as more information is made available.
