Tampa General Hospital Implements Rapid Bacterial-Viral Differentiation Test to Enhance Sepsis Care
Tampa General Hospital has adopted MeMed BV, an FDA-cleared test that measures a patient’s immune response to help distinguish bacterial from viral infection. The assay produces a result in about 15 minutes. Tampa General integrated it into its EHR–based emergency department sepsis-alert workflow, following an evaluation involving 893 adult emergency department patients from September 2024 through October 2025. The hospital’s announcement describes the evaluation and implementation, but does not establish clinical outcomes from the full rollout.
