A Sunday evening crash that left one person dead and another injured involved drinking and speeding, according to a report from the Pinal County Sheriff’s Office.
At approximately 9:10 p.m., police responded to a call of a three-vehicle crash on Honeycutt and Gunsmoke roads. There, officers found the 25-year-old driver of a Dodge Charger dead, the driver of a Nissan Altima with minor injuries and the driver of a Toyota 4Runner with no injuries.
The driver of the Nissan Altima, Deedrik Manning, was later charged with driving under the influence and manslaughter.
Documents obtained from the Pinal County Sherriff’s Office state that Manning was visibly intoxicated at the time of the crash. Manning allegedly told police he drank four beers prior to the crash and a punctured beer can was also found on the floor of his car.
A blood alcohol test was completed, and Blood Alcohol Content results are pending.
The statement also revealed a witness “heard loud revving engines,” looked over her home’s fence and saw two vehicles driving eastbound on Honeycutt Road “at a high rate of speed,” according to a probable cause statement.
Police have not revealed the identity of the 25-year-old driver killed in the crash or how the incident began.
