Pikeville assistant fire chief injured after fireworks let off at Hillbilly Days

UPDATE (10:48 a.m. on Friday, April 19): The Pikeville assistant fire chief had minor injuries after fireworks were let off at Hillbilly Days on Thursday.

That’s according to Fire Chief Johnny Cole. The assistant was injured and taken to the hospital with minor injuries and has since been released.

A brush fire also started, but was put out within 15 minutes, the fire department said.


PIKEVILLE, KY (WOWK) — At least one person was injured Thursday during the fireworks at Hillbilly Days.

That is according to the Pike County Emergency Management Agency Director Nee Jackson who says there is also a brush fire in the area where the fireworks were being set off.

The Pikeville Fire Department is handling the fire.
