    Pioneers upset Pequot Lakes at home

    It was Pioneer domination at the Pierz Legion Ball Park as the Pierz Pioneers baseball team shut out the conference opponent Pequot Lakes 5-0, Tuesday, May 6. The team ending the game on a no hitter from Brayden Haberman.

    The Pioneers earned the first two runs at the bottom of the first inning, with a run scored by Joey Stuckmayer and Chase Becker. At the bottom of the second Reese Young hit a ball, almost going over the wall, but ended up being a triple hit.

    In the sixth inning, 14, who stepped in for 13 as a pinch runner, stole the second, third and home plate thanks to a passed ball. Young hit another triple, letting Stuckmayer run home.

    Young had two hits, one run batted in and two hits. Gaberman pitched in all seven innings with 12 strikeouts. The Pioneers ended the game with five hits and no errors. Pequot Lakes had no hits and two errors.

    The Pioneers also beat Albany the second time this season. The Pioneers were on the road Friday, May 03 and won the game 4-1.

    The Pioneers’ Reese Young led the team on the plate with two runs, three hits, and two runs batted in. Kyle Winscher had two hits and two runs.

    Young pitched for six innings, throwing four strikeouts and walking two. Max Barlclay pitched one inning and threw one strikeout. The Pioneers ended the game with 10 hits and two errors while Albany had no errors and six hits.

    The Pioneers hosted Milaca Thursday, May 9 and Melrose Area Friday, May 10. They will travel to Mora Monday, May 13.
