Slidell man indicted in death of 2-year-old; cocaine and fentanyl found in toddler's system
A Slidell man has been charged in connection with the death of a 2-year-old girl from cocaine and fentanyl intoxication, the northshore District Attorney's Office said. A St. Tammany Parish grand jury on Wednesday indicted 32-year-old Christopher Mikhail Baker on charges of second-degree murder, second-degree cruelty to juveniles, possession of fentanyl and cocaine, and illegally having a weapon while in possession of fentanyl, the District Attorney's Office said in a news release.

Hospice House Crawfish Cook-off is a blazing hit
The weather was warm and the crawfish were spicy at the 19th annual Hospice Foundation of the South Crawfish Cook-off held at Slidell's Fritchie Park on April 20. The cook-off is believed to be the single largest one-day event in St. Tammany Parish, and the crowds this year did little to disprove that. More than 60 teams competed for top honors in the cookoff, serving up more than 40,000 pounds of mudbugs for the hungry hordes.
