A man in Phoenix was arrested after fatally shooting his mother's boyfriend during a physical fight on Monday night, police said.

Around 5:30 p.m., officers responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting near the area of 12th and Garfield streets in Phoenix. Upon arrival, they found 37-year-old Tracy Walker with a gunshot wound to the chest.

Walker was rushed to the hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

According to the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office, the suspect, identified as 24-year-old Calyveion Hendrix, made admissions to being responsible for the shooting at the scene. Police reports stated that witnesses saw Hendrix and Walker in a physical fight before Hendrix fired his handgun twice, hitting Walker once.

Hendrix was charged with second-degree murder and was being held on a $250,000 bond.

No other suspects were believed to be involved in the shooting, but detectives were still investigating what led to the incident.
