Douglas Scott Hunt, 34, of Mesa has been identified as the man who died attempting to assist crash victims early Sunday morning along Loop 202 in Phoenix, authorities said.
The man, who the Arizona Department of Public Safety called a good Samaritan, was struck by a vehicle while rendering aid, officials said this weekend.
The Arizona Department of Public Safety continues to investigate a multi-vehicle accident that occurred about 3:55 a.m. Sept. 24.
The driver of a vehicle involved in an earlier hit-and-run collision in the area of Interstate 17 at Durango Road was involved in another single-vehicle collision in the area of eastbound State Route 202 at 32nd Street, according to a DPS release.
“Two concerned citizens stopped on the scene to assist with the collision. While assisting, one of the good Samaritans was struck and killed,” the release stated.
Two other drivers were taken to a hospital with serious injuries, officials said.
Impairment is being investigated as a possible factor as the investigation continues, according to DPS.
