Vehicle vs Pedestrian Crash Triggers Hours Long Closure On I-17

1. AZ DPS, Phoenix Police and Phoenix Fire responded to reports of a pedestrian struck on the freeway shortly after 11:00 PM.
2. According to DPS the pedestrian was struck while standing next to his vehicle which was parked in the gore point for unknown reasons.
3. The initial collision involving the pedestrian triggered a chain reaction collision involving several vehicles.
4. The pedestrian was transported to a local hospital in unknown condition.
5. A hard closure was established between Dunlap and Northern Avenues for Southbound I-17 while troopers investigated the incident.
6. The driver that struck the pedestrian remained on scene and cooperated with investigators.
7. Impairment is not suspected.
8. The southbound lanes have since re-opened.
