Man and woman in critical condition after being shot near downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A man and woman are fighting for their lives at a hospital after a shooting broke out near downtown Phoenix early Friday morning.

Phoenix police responded to a shooting call just after 2 a.m. to the Circle K near 7th Avenue and Roosevelt Street. When officers arrived, they found a woman had been shot with critical injuries. A short time later, detectives learned that the shooting had taken place earlier in the morning near 18th Avenue and Fillmore Street.

As investigators continued working both scenes, officers learned that a man was dropped off near 7th Avenue and Buckeye Road after being shot. His injuries were also described a critical and life-threatening. At this time, it appears all the scenes were connected. Video from the initial scene showed crime scene tape surrounding portions of the store and investigators looking into a smaller, silver SUV.

Detectives say they are still working to learn what led up to the shooting.
