PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- A collision involving two cars ended with a pedestrian dead in Phoenix early Thursday morning. According to officers, the crash happened just before 6 a.m. near 24th and Northern avenues near Interstate 17.

Police say a driver was heading north on the I-17 off-ramp, trying to turn right onto Northern Avenue. However, the driver didn’t yield to traffic turning left on a green arrow and crashed into another car. Investigators say the at-fault driver then spun and hit 60-year-old Julian Ibarra, who was standing on the sidewalk. Ibarra was rushed to the hospital, where he later died.

The drivers involved in the crash weren’t impaired, police said. Video from the scene showed several lanes blocked around Northern, including the turning lane to enter onto southbound I-17. The investigation is ongoing.
