PHOENIX (3TV/CBS 5) -- Emergency crews have rescued two people stuck in the Salt River on Friday night. Investigators say the victims were stuck in waist-deep water near 91st and Southern avenues. Crews from Gila River, Phoenix, Goodyear and Tolleson were out helping with the rescue.

According to Phoenix Fire Captain Todd Keller, the couple got stuck on top of their car. Because of how fast the water was rushing, they weren’t able to get off the car’s roof. However, crews were able to use a helicopter to get the two safely out of the water. Arizona’s Family news chopper captured the man and woman being hoisted to safety.

Keller said road blocks and signs were in the area due to the water being 15 feet deep.
