Quinn Volunteer Fire Department Breaks Ground
Jerome Harvey, Pennington County Fire Administrator, began the groundbreaking ceremony with well-deserved praises for volunteer firefighters nationwide and residents of the state of South Dakota. It was a beautiful spring day on April 8 when multiple firefighting and law enforcement agencies with a multitude of South Dakotans came together to celebrate a momentous occasion. The residents of Quinn, a small community located in the far eastern side of Pennington County, welcomed them to the future site of the Quinn Volunteer Fire Department (QVFD) after years of planning and fundraising.
Wall Ambulance Service secures grant for second Lukas device
In a vital boost to emergency response capabilities, the Wall Ambulance Service has received a grant from Wall Foundation covering a portion of the cost for a second Lund University Cardiopulmonary Assist System (LUCAS) device that provides mechanical chest compressions to patients in cardiac arrest. This funding enables the service to equip another ambulance rig with advanced medical technology, enhancing their ability to provide critical care during emergencies.
Storms Tonight, Rain and Wind Tomorrow
RAPID CITY, S.D. (KEVN) - Thunderstorms are likely to continue until right after midnight with temperatures not dropping much. We are going to see the thunderstorms transition over to all rain by the time we get to the early morning hours. Winds are going to be the main issue for tomorrow, with a high wind watch in effect for Rapid City, Sturgis, and Wall. Wind gusts up to 60 mph are possible during the day tomorrow. Rain showers continue on and off throughout the daytime hours. Temperatures staying fairly cool throughout the day with highs likely in the mid 50s in Rapid City. Futurecast shows the on and off showers throughout the day tomorrow and by Wednesday, another round of moisture moves through, bringing snow showers to parts of NE Wyoming and the Black Hills. Overnight tonight, the severe thunderstorms last until around midnight then we transition over into rain showers by the morning, temperatures will stay fairly mild tonight, only getting into the 40s for much of the region. Tomorrow, rain is likely throughout the day, but the wind is the big story with sustained winds up to 40 miles per hour and gusts up to 60 mph. We will see the next three days in NE Wyoming and the Northern Hills cool off with the chance for showers, snow and rain on Wednesday. Then we start to dry out by the end of the week. Temperatures in the 40s and 30s are likely. Rapid City will see the 40s take over with the possibility of a few flurries lingering into the first part of the weekend on Friday and Saturday.
Softball: Huskies set for three-game series at home against Creighton
Coming off a series loss to St John’s on the road, the UConn softball team is back in action against Creighton this weekend. This will be a three-game Big East conference series and it all starts on Friday, April 12, at Burrill Family Field at the Connecticut Softball Complex. The series will open on Friday for a nightcap, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:00 p.m. The series will continue Saturday, April 12, at 2:00 p.m. then will wrap up on Sunday, April 13, with first pitch set for 12:00 p.m. All the games for the weekend have themes: Friday is Game Night, Saturday is Bleed Blue/Wear White and Sunday’s finale game is Senior Day for the Huskies.

Philip Health Services' "Know Your Numbers" Health Fair was held Saturday, April 6, at the American Legion Hall in Philip with a terrific turn-out. Over 20 vendors participated in the event and the Philip Health Services lab offered a variety of tests at a reduced price. We hope to see you again next year! Remember, Wellness Wednesday labs are still offered the fourth Wednesday of every month at Philip Health Services.
