A man is fighting for his life after he was shot on a subway platform in Philadelphia.

The victim was gunned down by a man wearing a ski mask on the westbound platform of the Market-Frankford Line at 15th and Market Streets in Center City at around 11.45 pm on Monday, May 29.

The man was brought to Jefferson University Hospital where medics describe his condition as critical.

Emergency services had rushed to the scene but by the time they arrived, the shooter had fled.

The incident comes follows the shooting of a high school student on a SEPTA bus by a masked gunman.

The tragedy unfolded after a man got into an argument with 15-year-old Randy Mills on a bus on Germantown Avenue shortly before 11 pm on Wednesday, May 24, and shot him in the chest. He died of his injuries.

Since then, officials have announced a no-ski mask policy on the whole of the SEPTA transit system.

"Those face masks are prohibited on SEPTA property," SEPTA police chief Charles Lawson said.

"You come on SEPTA property wearing your sheisty, and you will be engaged by police... You got two choices, remove it, or we escort you off the property."

Police are searching for suspects in both shootings.
