PHILADELPHIA (KYW Newsradio) — First responders got a man to the hospital and cleaned up the scene of a shooting in the aftermath of an apparent road rage incident that played out during Center City’s busy rush hour on Wednesday.

According to police, an incident that started at Chestnut 30th streets shortly after 5 p.m. ended at 23rd and Market streets about 15 minutes later.

It's unclear what started it, but police say there was an argument between two drivers — a man and a woman.

“At some point, this 22-year-old exited his vehicle with a crowbar in his hands and approached the 27-year-old female’s vehicle that was involved in a road rage with, and actually used the crowbar to break the passenger side rear door window,” said Chief Inspector Scott Small.

Police say that he dropped the crowbar into the woman's car.

The woman pulled a gun and shot at the man, hitting him in the groin. She then drove off and called family members and notified police of the incident.

Police say the man then tried to drive himself to the hospital. He made it as far as 23rd and Market streets, where they say he fell out of his car. A woman who was in his car fled on foot.
