Hoskins Surgery Successful But Future In Philly Remains Unknown

Sucessful ACL surgery will still sideline Rhy Hoskins for seven-to-nine months.

Rhys Hoskins underwent successful ACL surgery on Thursday in Fort Worth, Tex.

Dr. Steve Singleton performed the reconstructive surgery which will sideline Hoskins for seven-to-nine months, according to the Philadelphia Phillies.

Does that mean the first baseman has played his final game for the Phillies?

That remains unclear.

This type of surgery has become even more common in recent years.

Depending on what transpires with the Phillies this season, Hoskins’ future remains very much in doubt.

The Phillies placed Hoskins’ No. 17 jersey in his locker stall before the season opening 11-7 loss to the Texas Rangers on Thursday.

Hoskins is highly popular within the organization, but the future is all about business.

Depending on Hoskins’ health and salary figures, it’s not a given that he’ll be back in 2024.

Darick Hall could have a career year.

Bryce Harper could remain as the designated hitter when he returns this season and beyond.

Hoskins’ agent could ask for more money than the Phillies are willing to offer.

Aaron Nola wasn’t able to come to terms on a contract extension before this season and the sides appear to be far apart.

Hoskins can be a polarizing player because of his struggles on defense, but his offense and leadership skills are stellar.

For now, all Hoskins can do is watch, wait and recover. The Phillies will try to win a World Series without him.

Beginning next season, everything else is murky. Time will tell. Stay tuned.
