With Hoskins Out For Season, Philadelphia Phillies Could Be Linked To Slugger

The Philadelphia Phillies could linked to a slugger who may be close to changing teams ahead of the 2023 MLB season.

The Philadelphia Phillies suffered a massive bow when Rhys Hoskins tore his ACL in a non-contact injury and subsequently was lost for the season.

Darick Hall is a logical replacement at first base, but his inability to consistently hit left-handed pitchers could be an issue.

The Phillies have plenty of other options such as sliding Alec Bohm from third base to first. With the designated hitter in place in the National League, the Phillies will likely be moving players around quite a bit.

There’s also another interesting possibility – trading for Luke Voit.

The Milwaukee Brewers scratched Voit from the lineup on Friday, which was a potential indication that he was going to opt out, according to Kevin Manahan of NJ.com.

The report stated that Voit gave the Brewers an extension to Friday but added that there were other teams interested.

Voit is hitting 316 with two home runs and four RBI with an OPS of .859 in spring training.

“I’ve done what I can do. I’m raking right now,” Voit told the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “I’m having fun, these guys are great, so I’m just taking care of myself.”

Voit won the American League home run title in 2020 when the season was shortened by COVID.

But he hasn’t been the same since with the New York Yankees, San Diego Padres and Washington Nationals.

Voit has 95 career home runs and 272 RBI in six seasons, which also included a stint with the St. Louis Cardinals.
