Philadelphia Phillies Complete Trade With Cubs for Infielder

The Philadelphia Phillies have made another trade, this time with the Chicago Cubs for an infielder.

The Philadelphia Phillies have just completed their second trade this week, this time with the Chicago Cubs according to multiple reports. In an apparent move for depth, the Phillies have acquired minor league infielder Esteban Quiroz from the Cubs for cash considerations.

Quiroz is a veteran minor league journeyman, who at 31 years old, made his debut last season for Chicago. In 40 at-bats Quiroz slashed .275/.370/.275 and registered an OPS+ of 87.

The utilityman has registered time at second base, third base, and can play shortstop. This should not be seen as a sign that the Phillies have made the trade to replace at-bats for first baseman Rhys Hoskins who suffered a knee injury on Thursday against the Detroit Tigers.

Instead, Philadelphia has made it a priority to add depth as injuries have begun to pile up this spring.

Quiroz was not on the cubs' 40-man roster.

It's about as low-risk a trade as one can make.
