This week, former Philadelphia Eagles star safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson signed a free-agent deal with the Detroit Lions after previously rejecting an offer to return to the Eagles. And during his introductory press conference with his new team, it seems he couldn’t help but throw in a subtle jab at the Eagles.
During C.J. Gardner-Johnson’s first press conference with the Detroit Lions on Monday, he was asked to compare the roster of his new team with the roster of his former Philadelphia Eagles squad that made it to the Super Bowl last season. And Gardner-Johnson had a pretty shocking response, claiming his new team was “a little bit better.”
“To be honest with you, it’s a little better, but that’s just on me,” Gardner-Johnson said. “Everybody can look from the outside looking in, but that’s just on me, from the outside looking in, but this team has talent. This team, we can win the division, possibly win the division. Everybody should feel that way, but when I look at a team coming from where I came from, and the teams I’ve played on that won multiple divisions, been to playoff games, and been to the Super Bowl, this team has what it takes to get there, win the division and get to the playoffs.”
It was obviously a shocking comment, and the NFL world had plenty to say about it.
CJGJ is a very talented player who was pretty crucial to the Eagles' success last year, but at the same time the last week has perhaps revealed why coaches/ management weren't begging for him to come back https://t.co/aFrEqEpk8T

It’s safe to say Gardner-Johnson is embracing his new team.
