Philadelphia Phillies Sunday Notes: Painter, Suárez and Team USA

There is plenty of news to round up on this Sunday out of the Philadelphia Phillies spring training camp to include Andrew Painter, Rangers Suárez and everything Team USA.

There is finally some good news coming out of the Philadelphia Phillies camp this morning on the injury front. It's a nice change of pace to have positive developments rather than, well, players getting injured or having setbacks.

The first piece of business includes Phillies starter Ranger Suárez who returned to camp after experiencing forearm tightness while competing for Venezuela in the World Baseball Classic.

Suárez is now expected to be in the rotation during the first week of the MLB regular season, however, he will be limited. Great news for the Phillies pitching staff as their lack of depth was beginning to burgeon into a concern.

The next bit of business concerns top prospect Andrew Painter who suffered a sprained UCL two weeks ago. He was prescribed with four weeks of rest then he could begin to ramp up baseball activities.

On Sunday, Phillies President of Baseball Operations Dave Dombrowski said that despite the injury, he still expects Painter to be pitching for Philadelphia sometime this season. Exciting times indeed.

Finally, in case you missed it or have been living underneath a rock, Philadelphia star shortstop Trea Turner hit a grand slam to give the USA the lead over Venezuela in the WBC Quarterfinals on Saturday night and send them into the next round.

Turner claims it was the biggest hit of his career. Meaningless baseball be damned.

The World Baseball Classic has been an incredible ride and those who say it's meaningless, a distraction, or anything else negative should reevaluate. This tournament means so much to the players and all of the countries participating in it, not just the United States.

Keep it comin'.
