From Bishop Thomas John Paprocki, Diocese of Springfield in Illinois:. “The Attorney General’s inquiry into the history of clergy sexual abuse of minors in this diocese has served as a reminder that some clergy in the Church committed shameful and disgraceful sins against innocent victim survivors and did damage that simply cannot be undone. As bishop of this diocese, I cannot undo the damages of the past, but I have been and continue to be fully committed to ensuring we do all we can to prevent abuse from happening again. The changes our diocese enacted have proven to be effective as we are not aware of a single incident of sexual abuse of a minor by clergy alleged to have occurred in this diocese in nearly 20 years.
ICASA asking the state for more money
SPRINGFIELD – Services for rape victims hang in the balance because of a surprise drop in federal money. Illinois Coalition against Sexual Assault CEO Carrie Ward made her case to the Illinois Senate Appropriations Committee, asking for another $12 million in state dollars to bring the state participation to $20 million. She says the shortfall would mean layoffs, closure of satellite and outreach offices, and longer waits for services for victims of sexual assault.
Shooting on Taylor Ave. – Crime Stoppers Crime of the Week
Springfield Police are asking for your help in the investigation into a shooting May 18th around 6 p.m. in the 2400 block of Taylor Avenue. The suspect was described as a man with a beard with some gray hair, short hair, about six feet tall, approximately 130 – 140 pounds and wearing all dark clothing. The victim was treated for an apparent gunshot wound at a local hospital, and the injuries are considered non-life threatening at this time.
