1 dead after Friday morning house fire in Petal

PETAL, Miss. (WDAM) - A fatal Friday morning house fire is under investigation in Petal.

According to Petal Fire Chief Joe Hendry, they received a call about a house fire on Walnut Drive, estimated to have come in around 8:39 a.m.

Hendry said firefighters were able to locate and extract a man from the house. He was taken by ambulance to a local hospital, where he was later pronounced dead.

“When the fire department arrived on scene there was heavy smoke, moderate flames,” said Petal Fire Battalion Chief Carlton Sims. “They made entry into the house and started extinguishing the flames. On the scene at this time, Petal fire department was here, Petal police department was here, the State Marshal and AAA.”

The department says the house did receive heavy interior damage, but the cause of the fire is still under investigation by the State Marshal’s Office and the Petal fire and police departments.
