PERU — A 75-year-old woman from Londonderry has died from injuries she sustained in a single-vehicle crash on Vermont Route 11 in Peru earlier this month.

Mary Butera was driving a 2018 Volkswagen Tiguan westbound on VT Route 11 when she lost control of her vehicle. The vehicle crossed the yellow centerline into the eastbound lane, left the roadway, and traveled through the eastbound embankment.

It then went airborne into a guide wire from a power pole and came to an uncontrolled rest facing southbound in the eastbound embankment, according to the Vermont State Police.

Butera was airlifted to Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in New Hampshire due to her injuries.

On May 30, Vermont State Police were informed by officials in New Hampshire that Butera had died early that morning as a result of her injuries.

Authorities initially responded to the crash on May 7.

The Vermont State Police were assisted by the Londonderry Rescue Squad, Londonderry Fire Department, Green Mountain Power, and Paul’s Towing Service.
