PERRYVILLE — In another closely contested battle between the two divisional foes, Bohemia Manor came out on top with a 7-4 victory over Perryville on Wednesday.

Bohemia Manor wasted no time getting on the board, scoring three runs in the top of the first inning on a bases loaded walk, followed by a two-run double by Braden Paris. Perryville responded in the bottom half of the opening frame by scoring on a bases loaded walk of its own and a Bohemia Manor defensive error to pull within one.

The two teams traded runs once again in the second inning. The Eagles added three more runs in the top half of the inning on an RBI single by Chris Harris and a two-run double by Preston Emerson to extend their lead to four. Perryville pulled back within two runs in the bottom half of the inning on a two-run double by Pierce Sponaugle.

Despite Perryville getting runners in scoring position on multiple occasions in the ensuing innings, Bohemia Manor used strong relief pitching from Matt Felice and Logan Hall to hold its lead and keep the Panthers off the scoreboard the rest of the way.

Felice, who tossed three scoreless innings in relief, credited the defense behind him as a big reason for getting the outs he needed.

“I think our defense has just been locked down,” Felice said. “We’ve been making every play with minimal errors. Pitching, we’ve been hitting our spots, really working the counts, changing up speeds a lot.”

Bohemia Manor head coach Ray Polaski praised his team’s pitching as a big reason for its success thus far this season. Bohemia Manor holds a 5-1 record and has allowed four runs or more just once all season.

“The starting pitching has been phenomenal and our relief has been lights out,” Polaski said. “I don’t think we’ve given up an earned run in relief. We’re on a little bit of a roll here and we’re kind of feeling ourselves but there’s always tough games ahead.”

Despite the loss, Perryville head coach Ricky Davis feels that his team is starting to gel in the middle half of the season. Perryville entered Wednesday’s contest having won four of its previous five games after an 0-3 start.

“We’re becoming a team,” Davis said. “We’re doing the little things. When I bring guys in off the bench, they’re capitalizing. When their number is called, they take advantage of it. We’re starting to believe in each other, we’re believing in our program and that’s exciting to see.”
