The Perry Fire Department is reminding those wanting to do a controlled burn of some safety and courtesy protocols to take.

Perry Fire Chief Grason Hill says that before someone considers to take a controlled burn they must first judge the weather conditions. Hill states that high winds above seven miles per hour, humidity under 50-percent and hot temperatures can turn a normal fire into a disaster. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio that people need to alert the authorities and neighbors if they plan to have a controlled burn.

“Safety is always everybody’s number one priority. So you always want to make sure that everybody’s aware of it and you have everything you need to put that fire out, whether it be a little ATV(All Terrain Vehicle) with a tank on it, with water or whatever you have, just make that safety (is the) number one priority.”

He also reminds residents to wear the proper protective clothing including safety boots, a pair of jeans and a long sleeved shirt.
