A new aspect will be included in a summer event in Jefferson, with the goal of attracting more interest from the public. Tower Tunes Live concerts return on Wednesdays in June from 12:15-12:30pm. Mahanay Maestros will perform songs of their choice on the four octave carillon of the Mahanay Memorial Carillon Tower. New this year is a contest called “Name That Tower Tune.”

The Adel Public Library will celebrate the release of the new “The Little Mermaid” movie with a party this week. Patron Services Manager Amy Puck says they are asking for princesses and princes to come to their “Little Mermaid Find Your Voice Party,” from 10 to 11:30am tomorrow. Pucks says they will have stories from under-the-sea, snacks, activities, crafts and a special guest appearance.

The Adel Family Aquatic Center has begun serving customers for the summer. The pool opened on May 27th. The pool will be open from 12:30pm to 5pm and reopens from 6 to 8pm Monday through Thursdays. On Friday the pool will be open from 12:30 to 5pm and on the weekends the pool will be available to the public from 1 to 6pm.

Even with the month ending, the Stuart Public Library has some fun events going on. Today the library is closed in observance of Memorial Day, but tomorrow the cribbage and coffee group will meet at 10m, and there will be a movie and snack time at 2pm. On Thursday at 10am, Stuart Police Sergeant Katie Guisinger will be in for the Books & Badges event, with a Donut Day theme, and then Friday at 10am the cribbage and coffee group will meet again.

A long standing member of the administrative team for the Panorama School District has resigned. As previously reported, Superintendent Shawn Holloway has resigned from his position with Panorama, as he prepares to step into the superintendent position with the Norwalk School District. Holloway says that this decision was a hard one to make, but that it made sense to him and his wife that this was the next step for them. He tells Raccoon Valley Radio what he’ll miss about Panorama.

Marilyn Jean Bass Smith was born May 6, 1930 in Red Oak, Iowa. She was reared on a. farm with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Mark Bass along with her sisters Carolyn and Shirley. In 1943, she won the Montgomery County Spelling Bee and placed 5th in the Iowa State.

A non-profit organization will raise money for victims or survivors of domestic assault. The Crisis Intervention and Advocacy Center will hold a garage and bake sale from 8am until 7pm on Thursday and Friday and from 8 to 2pm on Saturday at the Faith Lutheran Church in Adel. Prevention Coordinator Hannah Vander Kopsa says that this is their 12th annual garage and bake sale where they sell stuff like house wear, clothing, furniture and also baked pastries. She explains how this fundraiser allows them to keep serving the community.
