Good morning, foodie friends,

As May draws to a close, the Peoria food scene is continuing to serve up the latest restaurant and dining news.

This week, we will dig into two recent openings. I'll also break down the latest Peoria food inspections − which cover routine inspections for April.

New German restaurant offers spaetzle, schnitzel

Annalisa Skaggs-Hogue and Brandon Skaggs practice cooking in the kitchen together at Mama’s Mahlzeit.

Germanic staples such as schnitzel, bratwurst and more can be found at Mama’s Mahlzeit.

The Farmington restaurant held its grand opening on May 21 and is owned by husband-and-wife team Annalisa Skaggs-Hogue and Brandon Skaggs.

Skaggs-Hogue is originally from Germany and says she had "always thought about" opening her own restaurant in the community.

Jonah's makes the 'jump' to Peoria

A line forms at the new Jonah's Seafood outlet in the Jump Trading Simulation and Education Center in Peoria.

Jonah's Seafood House opened Jonah's at Jump on May 8. The new location is situated inside of the Jump Trading Simulation & Education Center.

Manager Tate Ralph said customers will find staples from the East Peoria restaurant − including the signature seven-layer salad and seafood nachos.

"We wanted to make sure that we kind of had that Jonah's touch to things," Ralph said.
