Dry, but cooler to open the last week of March

PEORIA (25News Now) - How about those 60s yesterday? Hopefully you got the chance to enjoy the mild weekend weather. Temperatures have dipped into the low 30s this morning. A below average Monday is on tap, with highs near 50° under partly cloudy skies. The average high temperature for this date in Peoria is 56°.

Below average temperatures will continue over the next few days, with highs projected to top out in the low 50s through Wednesday. Dry weather aims to continue through this period. Winds will shift out of the south by Thursday, which will result in a surge in temperatures for the end of the week. Thursday high temperatures will climb into the low 60s, followed by highs near 70° on Friday.

The late week warm up will occur ahead of an incoming storm system that aims to bring the return of widespread wet weather to central Illinois. Most of Thursday is trending dry, with the chance for a few pop-up showers. The Friday forecast looks much different, with a few rounds of rain and thunderstorms possible. The Storm Prediction Center has already placed central Illinois under an elevated severe storm risk area for Friday.
