The Pella softball team was able to snap an eight game losing streak in a wild 6-4 win in Oskaloosa, while the Dutch baseball squad was dominant in a 12-0 victory Wednesday evening.

While the girls never trailed in their matchup with the Indians, they gave up a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the fifth in a three-run frame. Both teams would score at least one more run in the next four half-innings, until the Dutch set the home team down in order 1-2-3 in the 7th. Payton Lyons had a crucial–and eventual game-winning, two-run double in the 6th inning that nabbed back momentum, while Avery Parks came in for 1 2/3 innings of perfect relief to earn the save in the circle. Ava Curry and Katie Scheckel each added a pair of hits as Pella took advantage of four Oskaloosa errors.

There was far less drama next door as the Dutch dominated their Highway 163 rivals. Pella scored three runs in the top of the first inning and never looked back. Nathan Vande Lune gave up seven total baserunners in six innings, adding six strikeouts. Isaiah Kettler and Kellan Shull each had a pair of hits and a pair of runs batted in.

Pella’s softball team found their first conference win and improve their record to 4-9; they will head to Eddyville-Blakesburg-Fremont today for a rematch from this past Saturday’s Oskaloosa tournament, while the baseball team (7-6 overall, 4-2 in the LHC) will host Saydel for a non-conference tilt this evening.
