EIGHT NEWS AT SIX PEOPLE TELLING US THAT THEY’RE THINKING ABOUT US AND CONTINUE. IT’S IT’S JUST BEEN AMAZING. TONIGHT, A PELLA FAMILY WANTS TO GIVE BACK TO THE COMMUNITY THAT RALLIED AROUND THEM DURING THE DARKEST TIME OF THEIR LIVES. FIVE YEAR OLD MILLIE DELMAR DIED IN A SLEDDING ACCIDENT IN FEBRUARY. SINCE THAT TIME, HER FAMILY SAYS THEY HAVE SEEN AN OUTPOURING OF SUPPORT. CASEY RS ETHAN HUMBLE SHOWS US WHAT THEY ARE DOING NOW TO HONOR THEIR DAUGHTER AND THOSE WHO STEPPED IN TO HELP. YES, STACY, THE TRAGIC DEATH OF MILLIE ZELLMER HAS LED TO HUNDREDS OF COMMUNITY MEMBERS SHOWING THEIR LOVE NEAR AND FAR. NOW THE FAMILY IS HOSTING A BENEFIT IN A COUPLE OF WEEKS TO SAY THANK YOU. FIVE YEAR OLD MILLIE ZELLMER LOVED ANIMALS. SHE LOVED ALL ANIMALS. ANYWHERE WE GO, IF THERE WAS AN ANIMAL, SHE’D SHE’D WANT TO STOP AND SEE IT. AND TALK TO IT. AND SHE LOVED SPREADING HER JOY WITH OTHERS. SHE JUST HAD A ZEST FOR LIFE. AND ANYBODY WHO HAS EVER MET HER REMEMBERS HER AND HER BIG SMILE AND HER DIMPLES. EVERYTHING CHANGED IN FEBRUARY WHEN A PICKUP TRUCK HIT AND KILLED MILLIE DURING A SLEDDING ACCIDENT. BUT IN RECOVERING FROM THEIR LOSS, THE DELMAR SAY THEY’VE RECEIVED PLENTY OF SUPPORT FROM THE PELLA COMMUNITY AROUND THEM. IT’S JUST BEEN OVERWHELMING, REALLY, FROM PEOPLE ALL WE DON’T EVEN KNOW IN THE STATE OF IOWA TO OUR LOCAL COMMUNITY HERE, JUST PULLING TOGETHER FROM ANYWHERE FROM MEALS TO DONATIONS TO JUST HELPING OUT OTHER CHILDREN. NOW THE DELMAR ARE HOSTING A BENEFIT FOR THE MARION COUNTY HUMANE SOCIETY TO HONOR MILLIE’S LOVE FOR THEM AND ALL ANIMALS, ALL AGES ARE WELCOME. Since their 5-year-old daughter Milly was run over and killed by a pickup truck while she was sledding in February, Kristi and Andy Zellmer have received plenty of support from the Pella community.Now, they're honoring her and giving back to those who have supported them at a fundraiser and benefit from 5-9 p.m. June 24 at Smash Park in Pella. The Zellmers said hundreds of community members have reached out asking how they can help."It's just been overwhelming from people we don't even know in the state of Iowa to our local community here," Kristi Zellmer said. "Just pulling together from anywhere from meals to donations to just helping our other children."Proceeds from the benefit will go toward the Marion County Humane Society to honor Milly's deep love of animals."She loved all animals," Kristi Zellmer said.
